I don't know why this is happening but whenever I play Metroid Prime 2 (Gamecube) during cut scenes or in fights with a lot of horizontal moving or shaking, the aspect ratio keeps flipping between 4:3 and 16:9. So far I've tried ticking/unticking a bunch of options with no luck. I've also tried turning off the Widescreen AR code but that didn't do anything either. The only real "fix" for it is playing in 4:3 but I really don't want to do that. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: [I do have the setting on Force 16:9 so I doubt that's the issue],

Metroid Prime 2 Aspect Ratio Changing Automatically

That's a problem with Dolphin's aspect ratio auto-detection. You can avoid the problem by selecting Force 4:3 or Force 16:9 (depending on which one you want) for the Aspect Ratio setting in the first tab of the graphics settings.

I probably should have mentioned that it does happened regardless of me picking force 16:9 or not, so I don't think that's it. 10-08-2020, 05:00 PM
I can confirm there has been some sort of regression with how the aspect ratio is handled when playing the Metroid Prime games in Dolphin (at least, when Dolphin's Widescreen Hack enhancement is enabled). For example, when facing off against the final bosses in Metroid Prime, the screen will spontaneously jump between a 16:9 screen and a stretched 4:3 screen, regardless of whether Force 4:3 or Force 16:9 has been enabled in Dolphin. The last build to not have this issue was 5.0-11838.
The following build 5.0-11841 states the following: VideoCommon: Tweak widescreen heuristic. More details for this build: https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/8584 Perhaps something was broken in the result of fixing the other issues? Other members of the Metroid Prime Randomzier community have confirmed the issue. I can record a video of the issue if folk would like a demonstration. For the time being however, the game is completely playable in 4:3 without the widescreen hack, so it's not the end of the world. I would look into the code myself but I'm not sure where to begin. Seeing how this is my first post, I also want to take the time to say thank you to the Dolphin team. It's incredible how far this emulator has come. I hope my first post here wasn't too negative. ^_^; |
