Quote:which dolphin revision is faster and more compatible than 3.0 with this game?

I will say none. I mean none of the more recent builds I tried are MORE compatible. Faster? Not faster either. I haven't tried MGS with Lectrode or DefenderX's builds though. As you said Dolphin 3.0 is just fine for this game

Untrue, the game has become perfectly stable now(changes done by marcosvitali). while it used to crash all the time. LLE has also been improved since 3.0 and that is pretty much essential. All in all, it's fine stability/gfx wise. I cannot comment on performance since I've got an overclocked SB so everything been running full speed since I bought this CPU. There have been quite a few optimizations done since 3.0 but I guess performance could have deteriorated due to increase in emulation accuracy.
Nonetheless, according to skid the latest git(HEAD,master, w/e it's called it) is the best for this game. Just use the settings he recommended.

Speaking of sound, It has always been like that and both HLE and LLE seem to deliver the same quality of audio emulation.
This game is really weird, perhaps skid could elaborate on this subject. I'm curious as to why it's so broken.

F S M I believe.

Disagree. Tried 3.0 and get nerved about the "the memory-card in slot A needs to be formated"-problem and several crashes.

With the latest builds i had no memory-card problems and no crashes. Not faster but not slower as 3.0. Same old probs though (speech out of sync in some cut-scenes, green background on codec, screen-flashing at the beginning and ending of cut-scenes).

Anyway, Dolphin isnt that fun to play TTS. I prefer the original console with progressive-scan enabled, looks good enough for me. Anyway, 3.0 is no fun for me to play this game.
My current desktop-system:

OS: Win8.1x64
CPU: i5 2500k @ 4,2 GHz
GPU: nVidia 560 Ti

I didn't notice real differences of performance between Dolphin 3.0 and recent builds. I have to recognize I didn't play the entire game with recent builds though. I will as soon as I can

You're right here. The sound is better

I disagree. The game is fairly playable. But you're right it's definitively one of these games you'd better play on the real hardware

I can say that my processor is not so powerful but the only way to run through this game without it crashing sporadically is for me to use LLE audio. I can use LLE audio in 3.0 but not in the latest versions because the speed falls below 100% in important parts like the codec calls and some cut scenes, causing the audio to skip and ruining the experience as a result. I can play the newer ones only with HLE but then the game crashes constantly and for some odd reason the controls go crazy when I try to aim, peek around corners, move, etc. but that may be a problem with just me because I never noticed it until recently.

One more thing Wink

If you play through the fist half hour of the game, you will experience some differences, when changing the video-backend.

Only with DX11 you get the thick snowflakes as can be seen on the real Gamecube, when you arrive the heliport after using the first elevator. With DX9 or OpenGL the snow has faded out a lot, but is still visible. Not that important imo.

But i prefer OpenGl instead, cause it offers a much thicker Laserpointer ray of red light. That makes it much easier to aim at things in the distance. With DX9 or 11 the red ray is very thin, nearly invisible.

No performance-drops compared to DX9/11 with my rig.

By the way, here is my fav snap ive made during the last daysWink:

I keep hearing how this game runs best on OpenGL but the graphics are weird in some sections on my computer. The per-pixel lighting option helps some with that but not enough. The glitches get weird especially when I increase the IR from the original to any other one.

for what it's worth, I get no crashing and about 95% speed in Lectrode's r6505 x64 (a great, fast, fairly compatible build) with my Wolfdale E6300 @3.33ghz (a chip I bought for $80 three years ago) with JIT, Lock threads to Cores, OpenGL, HLE (XAudio2) and Safe Texture Cache (Fast). Took some experimenting, but this is definitely the best I've seen. Looks nice with the widescreen hack and I have more than enough GPU muscle for some AA/AF, so as far as I'm concerned this is a nice equivalent to the PS3/360 remakes of the PS2 titles.

I agree. I had tried this revision and MGS worked very fine with it. It's an old revision so it's no more supported on the forum but it had to be said Smile
