The game is meant to run at 4:3 but for some reason dolphin runs it at 16:9 when aspect ratio is selected to auto.  I remember it used to run at proper aspect ratio even after the correct aspect ratio/vi merge.

Grab the latest dev build, it has changes to how the aspect ratio is selected.

Oh ok, your profile said 4.0-6906, so I wanted to check that you were on one of the 4.0-74xx builds.

Check in the game to see if theres an aspect ratio option, since Dolphin now can use the in-game setting to change aspect ratios.

no there's not. Only way is to force 4:3 in the aspect ratio since auto isn't working for this game.
Okay there's something wrong with this game, even when forced to 4:3, the game still stretches to 16:9. Only difference is the main game menu is in 4:3, but once you select a game it will stretch to 16:9 or whatever aspect ratio your monitor is using.

Can you post a screenshot of what it looks like for you? It looks like it's working fine for me. I want to see if I'm not just imagining things on my end.

Here this is AR on auto.  Notice the image is stretched to 16:9 when it's suppose to be 4:3.

Yeah, I don't get that (I'm on 4.0-5743, I haven't updated in a while). It could be a recent regression. Can you check to see if 4.0.2 works fine (or any previous revision around near the one I'm using)? I'll compile the latest Dolphin build and see if if looks like that for me too.

Definitely a regression since forcing 4:3 AR still stretches to 16:9.

It happens on every NES game for me. Thought it was a problem on my end.
