But often those default settings you change (like the cpu underclock feature) can cause game breaking bugs or other unexpected behaviour.
It may appear to be fine on many games, it may be you never hit any problems, but its somewhat dangerous and thus not recommended. There's nothing more frustrating than getting your game into a non-completeable state.
