Second, I've found that my adapter doesn't recognize when I have it plugged in when I start up my Mac; I need to close Dolphin, unplug and plug back in my adapter, and then Dolphin will recognize it. Third, make sure you're using Dolphin 5.0 or newer (as this is the newest stable version).
Hey, thanks so much for trying to help. Maybe it will be helpful to know what settings everyone else has so I don't waste time trying combinations of different things. The procedure you described didn't work for me =[ But maybe just to clarify a list of things I should be doing:
1) Dolphin 5.0
2) Wii U mode for the adapter
3) Gamecube controller plugged into port 1 on the adapter
4) The black USB, not the gray cord (adapter comes with 2, but I think the gray one is only for rumble)
5) In Dolphin, choose "Gamecube Adapter for Wii U", NOT "Standard Controller"
These are the screenshots of what I see when I run Dolphin 5.0.
