Restarting emu solves the problem and you can play another hour or so without problems. Buffer overflow? This is a known issue. Audio on both HLE and LLE begins to sound "scratchy", stuttering, or static-like. 90 minutes seems to be the general time frame for this problem to show up. There's really nothing to be done atm. As you've found out, restarting Dolphin resets the audio quality as well. The quickest solution is to just make a save state, hit the Stop button, hit the Start button, then load up the save state, although in-game saving is preferable due to its stability. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds, and you won't have to do it all that often (e.g, you'd have to play 3+ hours to have to do this more than once).
What could be happening? In the first hour of playing, LLE sound is perfect, no skip, no stuttter, no distortion.

Dunno what's causing it, but it's been around for a while. haddockd tested it on 3.0, and it happens all the way back then. I don't think the devs have found a concrete cause either, though I've guessed it might be related to framerate or something along those lines. For example, once you get the scratchy, static audio, you can press the Tab key for a bit, and eventually it goes away for a short while (only to come back in a minute or so). To get rid of the borders, you have to do it like this: - > Configure - > Wii -> Change "Aspect Ratio" from "16:9" to "4:3" Then you might get rid of the borders, but it's still 4:3 .. You can either stretch it to 16:9: - > Graphics - > General - > "Aspect Ratio" to "Force 16:9" or "Stretch to Window" - Stretch to Window is useful when you have a monitor/TV screen with an aspect ratio between 4:3 and 16:9 Or you can also use Dolphin's widescreen-hack option to get true widescreen: - > Graphics - > Enhancements - > Additional with setting the aspect ratio to "Force 16:9" or "Stretch to Window", you have to check "Widescreen Hack" Though I wouldn't recomment you to do this, while Mario Party 8 is also nothing but an advanced version of its predecessors, so you will have the same issues like in Mario Party 4-7 when you use widescreen hack .. I tried to get an account in the WiiRd forums to ask someone for these codes, but you only can get in there if someone really wants you .. Well I can understand the sound not working properly if your framerate is dropping and the game starts to lag, but what if your computer is able to play the game at 100% and hold it then shouldn't there not be an issue? Scootaloo: There doesn't have to be a logical reason for something to not be working properly with an emulator. Maybe it can be considered "logical" to the developers if they were to know the cause, but sometimes things just don't work as they should and sometimes there are no answers until someone decides to look at the problem.

Yes... the sound problem after 1-2 hours is pretty weird, looks like a typical buffer overflow or mem leak, but I guess is a lot more complicated. Guys, about mp 8, anyone know the code line to make it 4.3 by default without changing dolphin settings? I mean... per game config.. |
