I'm trying to play Mario Party 4 and it is just running so slow I can't even play. The window bar shows it at like 60% speed. I have no idea why. My CPU and memory usage aren't even going over 50% when I'm running it.

I can run other games like Paper Mario 2 perfectly fine, so it's a bit weird this one isn't working. It's working perfectly fine for the guy that uploaded this video too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTn-Sn-Y69E

Any help?

Quote:Currently, we have been closing threads that did not follow the rules about creating a proper thread, like not providing PC specs, game name, settings and all of the information that is needed in a thread from a person asking for help.

Like Invader said, we need your settings. It's hard to tell if your problem's hardware or software related. Be sure to note that older revisions of Dolphin (the one in the video is r75XX something) tend to do better with lower hardware specs.

For your settings, we'll need you to provide the following: Click the Config button and look at the General tab. Click the Graphics button and look at the General, Enhancements, and Hacks tabs. That's usually all of the most relevant settings.

Ah, well I just had it on defaults originally. Here's those pages now:

All I changed was the antialiasing to 4xSSAA I believe because I saw that in the video description. It seemed to speed it up a little when I did that but it's still not playable. I also tried disabling dual core but it didn't help any.

Disabling dual-core makes certain games more stable in Dolphin, but usually it slows the emulation down. Sometimes a single core is enough, however, in which case the speed stays the same. Also note that Dolphin is a dual-core program (tri-core with LLE audio on Thread) so it's not like it could use 100% of your CPU.

Your settings look fine; there's an easy way to tell where your hardware might be at its limits. Try turning off any AA, so that your graphical settings are at the lowest possible values. If your game speed is still the same as it was before, then your system isn't being bottlenecked by the GPU, rather it's the CPU. However, if you see an increase in game speed, then that means your GPU is the bottleneck at higher settings.

I'm inclined to say it's your CPU, since this thread says your GPU should be good enough for 4X internal resolution, I think it should handle 1X IR with 4X SSAA without much problem. To get some speed-ups, you can try to OC your CPU, use an optimized build (such as one from DefenderX or Lectrode), or use the same revision shown in the video. The last I do not recommend (older revisions are unsupported, always try to use 3.0 or newer) just saying it's an option some people choose. Your mileage will vary with anything you try though.

The guy that posted that video evidently only has a GT 240 with a 2.5 GHz processor if you look at the tags, so...yeah. I'm pretty sure the GTX 285 is a lot better than the 240 and my processor seems a bit better too, so it would be rather odd if my system just wasn't good enough.

I tried putting the quality settings to the lowest possible and it will still only play at around 60% speed. I guess I'll try those optimized builds and then the older version if that doesn't help any.

Alright, so just tried Defender and the old revision r7483 (Lectrode's site isn't working for me so I couldn't try that one). Defender was the same story. Ran at 60% speed at around a measly 35 fps. The old revision improved significantly to 70% and an average of 45 fps. It's not near as good as the 60 fps that guy was getting in the video, but at least it's playable now. Any further ideas though?

Check your CPU clock speed with "Realtemp" when running dolphin , make sure it not underclock or overheat or anything
MP4 run full speed all the time on my i5
Single Player (with CPU) ? or Multiplayer (with real person) ? Multiplayer cause slowdown on all games

Hmm, I was indeed playing it multiplayer. I just tested it single player and it runs perfectly fine at 100% speed - 60fps. That's weird. I don't see why multiplayer would slow it down. I don't suppose there's any way to fix that?

Multiplayer = more players on the screen = more CPU load = more CPU power is needed

Well there aren't actually ever more players on the screen for most of the game. It's turn based, so...yeah, I still don't see why it would slow it down. It just has more player turns taking place instead of computer turns. I guess I could see it making sense if it needed to register more input from more players simultaneously, but given the nature of this game...I'm not seeing it. Even during the Minigames when players are moving simultaneously, does it really take a lot more processing power to register all the input from the players than it does to run an AI to do everything? So that wouldn't even really make sense, never mind the board game part where nothing more is happening at all. Just the same it's already doing for one player at different times.
