This texture pack has been made to make Mario Kart Wii eye candy on a 1080p/4k display.
However, it may look pretty bad if displayed in Wii's native resolution.
All the textures that had been edited are four times bigger than the original ones.

This Texture Pack is no longer in progress!
You can download the most complete version of it from this post, however nothing more will come from me about it, but everyone is free to keep updating it and post new textures! I’ll drop by every now and then and update the main pack if any contributions has been made. Thanks to everyone for your support!

More details:
Mario Kart Wii had an issue in the process of modernisation: The fun of main interface went totally away!

So I decided to replace the plain boring Sans-Serif font by the funky Mario one.
They also had a problem making the UI like the Wii system menu/Wii-fit and other plain boring UI... on top of it using some totally outdated designs.
So I tried to make it slightly more colorfull and make it as "modern" as possible.

My own rules about this texture pack:
- Use external sources only if they're available in four times the original resolution.
- Completely redo anything that doesn't respect the first rule (no upscale)
- Do not use any of the work of another person making game textures mods.
- No real-life (photos) textures! Unless of course if the original picture is also photo based.

Looking closely:
Main screen comes from Mariowiki, logo from Wikipedia (no upscale, 4 times original resolution)
Items (in race) had been replaced from external source (Mariowiki, Mario Kart Wii Items), some had to be edited.
Character selection icons had been replaced from random high res character pictures (Mariowiki), with some personnal edits.
"In race" character icons had been replaced from Mario Kart 8 character selection icons (Mariowiki), with little personnal edits.
Font had been completely replaced by New Super Mario U from Dafont.com, with tons of personnal edits for special characters and in order to fit in the game.
Controllers pictures had been replaced by random HD pictures found over Google Image, some edits involved.

To install, simply unpack the archive within C:/Users/[your name]/Documents/Dolphin Emulator/Load/Textures/ (if using Windows)
and overwrite everything if you have previous itterations of this Texture Pack (this is the last version from 2019-02-07).

Currently, only 137 Textures are edited, which is not much. Some text-based textures will only work with the French version of the game (but main font works for every versions).

I included every textures made and uploaded by other users into this topic so you can enjoy the most complete pack possible as for now directly from the very first post without having to read everything.

Huge thumbs up to zyxomma100 (1 texture), JOHN30011887 (17 textures) and ElonMusk (11 textures) for their contribution! If you want me to remove your textures from the main release just tell me!

Contributions are welcome! Indeed, there's some quality standards... Textures had to be looking the closest possible to the original one, like the exemple bellow (click to view in full size):

Any help is welcome!

Let me know what you think of it! And hopefully some of you will be willing to contribute!

This looks amazing so far. An admin should direct this to the Hires Textures Forum! Keep up the good work!

Great work ! I like the way you bring the UI closer to classic Mario Kart games : the funky Mario font, the new title screen.
The fact that you're concerned with the graphic chart of the game obviously shows that you're a graphic designer ha ha.
From France with love.

Thanks a lot! Glad you like it! For today's update I've done many textures of Mushroom Cup: Luigi Circuit, while there's still a lot of work to achieve it, here's how it looks like so far:

Some textures (grass and sand) are photo based as it is originally in the game, road texture is procedural, from stock ressource.
I changed the font of "Luigi Circuit" on the sign with the Mushroom because I couldn't find the original one and won't spend hours remaking it myself in vectors, I don't think it's a big deal anyway and it looks kinda close. Still have to make 3 more signs (as you can see in the picture above), fences textures, 2 more environment textures and if I get crazy, why not the audience also!

I also edited a couple of previous textures to correct some errors, bringing us to a current total of 98 textures edited!

As for some mysterious reasons I cannot edit the first post, here's the two pictures I wanted to add to it:

Spoiler:
Character selection icons[Image: 1483669453-character-select-icons.jpg]
Items (bonuses) and CC icons[Image: 1483669453-items-bonuses-cc-icons.jpg]

That is because you are new on the forums. You need to have around 50 posts first. You can read more about it on the Global Forum Rules thread.

Thanks, I like it a lot: a bit different from the original, but it fits very well.
A while ago I started the same kind of project:
https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-ma...-retexture
to learn more about gimp & inkscape.
I realized at this moment the enormous amount of textures in a game like this !

I hope you'll keep posting the updates (for example, the Luigi Circuit).
Nice job !

Thanks everyone! Well that's true, actually Mario Kart doesn't look really bad while displayed in 1080p except texts that are really blurry and some pixelated. Indeed the signs, all of them are really awful, I guess it was a choice by Nintendo to ease some memory work but if you can manage 1080p gameplay, it shouldn't be an issue to use this in-progress pack. However, once I'm done working on it I'll release a downscalled edition of it, I'm aiming 4k gameplay (many textures are too small for it even in 4 times the original resolution) but 1080p doesn't need four times original resolution on all textures to look nice.

As for the updates, I keep working on it of course, I've edited several textures but not enough to release an update:

In progress:

Would be really happy if someone would join the project!
