For the past few months (probably since at least August 2019), some textures packs have a high chance of crashing when using Vulkan. Even using a newest dev build it seems to happen. All texture pack types appear to be affected, raw png, dxt5, and bc7. However some games don't run into this issue, the xenoblade texture pack has given me 0 issues. This pack for Four Swords Adventures (compressed with dxt5) almost always crashes dolphin ~5-10 in a row before eventually working. Hypatia's Wind Waker pack does the same thing for me (compressed with bc7 it seems). Not really sure what to do about it, its a very frustrating issue

The error is about an unknown opcode, and it doesn't happen in OpenGL at all. My specs are "i5 4690k, 16gb, rx 570 (no difference in functionality between ACO and LLVM shader compiler). Running Manjaro Linux

Just as a quick check, but have you verified that your games are valid dumps? If you right-click them in Dolphin and go to Properties > Verify tab you can double check.

Yeah, they're all valid. They're not compressed at all either as gcz or wbfs

I've heard of bugs like this before. Where certain features can leak into emulation like this. Can you try turning off dualcore to see if that fixes it?

Still happens with dual core off unfortunately

That's what I figured. So, for an unknown opcode to happen, something from the texture pack has to be affecting the game. I don't know what but it seems possible.

I did some messing around with settings and it seems like prefetching the packs causes the opcode error. The games run without it (and pretty well, I guess my ssd isn't that bad). While not prefetching isn't ideal, I could live with it if a solution isn't found. I don't believe there's a hardware issue on my end, I don't have any memory issues afaik

Turns out one of my sticks might be bad, getting some errors with memtest. I'll try without the stick and see if that was the problem

I tried with 2 of my working and error free sticks and still get the same problem. However, testing some other games with texture packs the issue appears to happen whenever more than 5GB of textures are prefetched. The examples I showed both do that, including the 4k version of the xenoblade pack, a random twilight princess pack and the metroid prime 2 AI upscale pack. This happens with and without the bad memory stick so there's a problem somewhere else
