I don't know of the history of them or anything, but it seems a sensible management decision to keep in contact with people who do stuff for you, however menial. While I'm at it this is probably the best opportunity to ask why the newest build is nearly a fortnight old. Is it just that the devs have made no useful progress recently, or has something broken down somewhere? It just seems a bit odd to me that the builds were about daily, and then suddenly they're not.
The problem is that mamario is the one managing shall not be named. We would love to get control of the website and replace his builds by something done by one of our current devs (me, for example), but he is the one who has access to the website (and he doesn't want to give access to anybody else). This situation sucks and we are actively trying to do something about it.
