Mac Keyboard not reading inputs

I'm a Mac Catalina user trying to use Dolphin to emulate my copy of Smash Bros. Melee to play on keyboard. I've installed everything, copied the game to my computer, and I opened up the game properly. When I launch the game, I get a screen with the emulator as intended. However, I am unable to move or select anything, so I can't actually use the game.

I tried going to controller configurations and checking every type of input and setting, to see if it would work, resetting controls, everything I could think of. I looked for a thread about this and couldn't find it. It's totally possible I've missed something obvious, but I can't find it. Any help is appreciated.

I'm on a pretty new MacBook Air, running OSX Catalina, with specs that meet the base requirements for running dolphin.

I am having the exact same issue, just updated to version 5.0-11984 and the problem persists. I even tried toggling the permission to read keyboard input at System Preferences>Security&Privacy to no avail.
