Sad
Hi everyone.

I've just started using Dolphin, and I'm getting lower than expected performance. I consider my processor to be pretty fast, although I know more cores =/= better emulation. My GPU is also pretty good, but, again, better GPU doesn't mean faster performance.

When I tested Super Smash Bros. Melee, I got 34 fps using 4 Ice Climbers on Fountain of Dreams. When I used 2 Kirbys on Brinstar, I got 60 fps. Super Mario Sunshine gets ~25 fps on the file select screen.

Here are my current settings:

JIT Recompiler
DSP LLE Recompiler

Direct3D11
640x480
No enhancements/all minimum
Scaled EFB Copy checked
Default options under Hacks

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Actually, 25 fps is very playable for Sunshine, it seems to prefer OpenGL.

EDIT 2: Although, it does drop once I get to Isle Delfino to ~20 fps.

You shouldn't use DSPLLE if a game doesn't require it.

The Dolphin Wiki entry for this game actually recommends DSP LLE for Melee. It solves the issue of music not looping correctly, but HLE audio runs great nearly 98% of the time I've played the game. Super Mario Sunshine has no problems with HLE to my knowledge.

So as delroth said, HLE audio is probably the best way to go when LLE isn't needed. You should see a nice speedup when you switch to HLE, and the wiki notes that people with similar specs as your computer are getting fullspeed.

Lastly, I think the Fountain of Dreams is one of the most demanding stages for this game, so it's no wonder you get slowdowns with 4 Ice Climbers (8 characters on screen). If your Super Mario Sunshine is a PAL game, then 25 FPS is the max, NTSC is 30, just so you know. Anyway, have fun with Dolphin Wink

HLE really helped, thanks for the quick fix, guys!

I used Fountain of Dreams because someone recommended it as a benchmark in another thread.

If you are going to use DSP LLE then you will have to disable Idle Skipping to get full performance. I hope my theory is correct Wink

No, that slightly slows things, but makes it sound better when the speed isn't 100%. Good if you can't hit a constant 100%, bad if you can get full speed, but just barely get 100%.

That depends on your region.

There's no option to uncap it in Dolphin? Conversely, is there a way to get SSBM to run smoothly at 30 fps, sort of like Sunshine? Currently, if I set the refresh rate to 30, it just runs the game at half speed.
