I've been looking for a budget laptop for a while and have been completely confused the entire time. If anyone knew of a good one please reply with a link to it. My budget is $500

Here's what seems the best to me right now

No, that CPU is garbage, its a 3rd gen i5 U-series processor, it is very slow and will throttle the speeds due to the temperatures getting too high when you start running intensive CPU programs, aka Dolphin. Also the integrated graphics are terrible.

If you absolutely can't go above $500, I'd have to recommend this one, as it has the latest Intel U-series CPU which is a lot better than the old U-series, and it has decent cooling.
i5-7200U with Intel HD 620 for $499, currently on sale for $399

However, I strongly recommend you save up some more and get either of these Dell machines, as they have waaaaaayyy stronger CPU/GPU combo and really good cooling.
i7-6700HQ with Nvidia GTX 950M GPU for $728

i5-7300HQ with GTX 1050 for $850

Actually, for only $500 you can find even better. This is the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G, which pack a Kaby Lake i7-7200U, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 940MX.

While yes, that is a better computer, I was unable to find it at or below $500. Also the cooling has me concerned as the CPU and GPU share the same heat-pipe, it can lead to thermal throttling. Reviews are saying the cooling system is pretty good, but they don't exactly benchmark Dolphin, so it's hard to tell how well it'll handle Dolphin's load.

Yeh, it must be around $600, I forgot that. But it's often described as the best tight-budget laptop available that can be used for a bit of gaming.
