Uh, if a game has trouble running at 1x IR that's a definite sign that it IS hard on the CPU.
List of "heavy" requirement GC games?

I think I eveb tried it at 2.2 GHz a while back. I could try it again if anyone is interested in the results. Same. After all, SoA and SADX are enhanced ports of Dreamcast games, and the Dreamcast had much weaker technology than the Gamecube, so I don't see how they'd be "heavily demanding" games. Was gonna call my friends and get 'em all together
I was gonna go and start a band But everything I wanna do, it's already been done Why would I wanna go and do it again? 05-28-2015, 05:50 AM
Never underestimate Sega's ability to botch a port, though. The games probably have heavier requirements than they would have if they had been ported by more competent developers. Sega's PC ports are known to be particularly shoddy.
Bomberman Generation, Bomberman Jetters, Zelda Four Swords Adventures and Super Mario Sunshine can be put on light -- they ran close to full speed all the time in an ancient Core 2 Duo E4500 and a GT 440, during Dolphin 3.0-era. I still have access to that system but I never tried Dolphin on it anymore, these titles probably run full speed now after all those speedups of current builds...
EDIT: Zelda Wind Waker is lightweight as well
Avell A70 MOB: Core i7-11800H, GeForce RTX 3060, 32 GB DDR4-3200, Windows 11 (Insider Preview)
ASRock Z97M OC Formula: Pentium G3258, GeForce GT 440, 16 GB DDR3-1600, Windows 10 (22H2) 05-28-2015, 04:33 PM

Sonic Adventure 2 seems to be a good port tho, but SADX...ugh...
To put it in perspective: SADX runs nearly as bad as both Mario Galaxies on my system and with Skip EFB Access from CPU enabled, the Galaxies run better. I'ld put Eternal Darkness and Kirby Air Ride on light, they are so light, they even let me use OpenGL without speed loss.

Personally, I'd say anything that REQUIRES a 1x in IR to run on moderately reasonable machines should be at least Medium-Light. By moderate machines, I mean something that's maybe 5 years old or less, has at least a Core 2 Quad and has an decent mid-to-lower tier GPU in it. If you can run a game in 1.5x on that level of machine without any special settings, and no issues with sound or notable slowdown, it's absolutely light. If the whole game stutters at 1.5x or it does so frequently on a Core i5 with a ok GPU, it's probably near the Heavy category. If at 1.5x it has occasional hiccups and maybe the sound pops a bit here and there but 90% or more is completely playable without issue, somewhere between Med-High and Heavy.
You gotta use judgment here. Obviously there are a lot of factors that can cause a game to run like crap, but if you look at a reasonable Core 2 Quad / i3 level PC with like a AMD's FirePro V3900 or some other entry level ok GPU and 8GB RAM, and it has issues running at 1.5x then depending on how frequent and harsh the issues are, you can gauge how much higher it needs to go up the scale. If there's a bad sound issue with tracks making annoying noises the whole game, I'd put it in Med somewhere. If it studders a little on 1.5x just on occasion, it's Med-Light or even Light. It just depends on how bad it is and how common those defects are. So, feel free to gauge how you feel it runs for you and mention what you're running it on, and if your rig plays differently than someone else, it can be adjusted to somewhere in between as needed until they settle somewhere. I just figure there are going to be some really obvious ones out there like Rebel Strike. And it's more helpful to know those ones up front then folks will know what they most likely won't be able to play if they don't invest in a better machine. 06-03-2015, 04:28 PM
what the heck my computer runs Melee and Metroid way better than it does RE 4. RE 4 stutters a lot especially near some typewriters for some reason
Melee's requirements is very dependant on the gamemode, the stage and the number of players on the screen.
Look at my weak Code2Duo MacBook in my signature, it can handle 2 players on Final Destination no problem, solid 60 FPS (1x IR). But 4 players in Fountain Of Dreams, this is not even playable. So in certain circonstances, yes Melee is way lighter that RE4. My Core2Duo really don't like RE4 :/
From France with love.
