Wait, how could bad design by AMD that results in slower speed be Dolphin's fault? If I were you, I would save up some money and get a deal on i5 3570K right when Haswell comes out, since there should be a price drop. Then you will get the upgrade you wanted. Don't blame stuff on the emulator unless it actually makes sense and has a purpose.
PC Specs
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 8GB 2400MHz DDR4
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit

Not really, intel doesn't normally do much of a drop if any

Yeah but the websites that sell PC parts problem will have some kind of Ivy Bridge clearance, as eventually they will be a lot cheaper compared to Haswell.

Not really. Maybe a 10 to 20 dollar off promo from time to time but the Sandy Bridge parts maintained their prices until they where sold out, quite recently, on Newegg. In fact the Sandy parts where sometimes even a little bit more expensive than the Ivy parts that replaced it.

sorry I am not going to buy a processor exclusively for an emulator, I am just trying to figure out why the difference
but the performance difference only happens with zelda, in other games the fps is better, take a look at this demanding game (the last story)

I get 22-30 fps, in the phenon it was slower
AMD FX™-6300 Six-Core Processor OC 4.5 GHZ
Gtx580LE 3GB RAM
System RAM 18GB
Dolphin 4.0-1843

Once you enter Lazulis city , your FPS will be cut down by half Tongue . From that time onwards , the game speed will stay like that
After all , The Last Story requires i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz

Why the difference? AMD decided to go for multi threaded performance this time arround and sacrifice single core performance. Lots of programs, dolphin included, don't make good use of multi threaded performance. It's not dolphins fault there are just no more things to slap onto other threads; there is CPU thread, GPU thread, and DSP Thread. Take a look at these benchmarks and pay attention to the single threaded results and the Star craft II result. This is the newer fx 6300 against the older i5 2400. The 2400 beats the 6300 in all single threaded tests and some of the multi threaded ones. This is because AMD has such weak performance per core.

Different games and settings have different code and do different things. Generally speaking an FX 6300 will require a significantly higher clock rate than your phenom II to achieve the same performance but that may not be the case with every game.

Also you might have done something wrong with your comparison for all we know.

This information is irrelevant to his question. He asked why the FX 6300 is outperforming his phenom II 955 in this game but the opposite is happening with twilight princess.

Xalphenos Wrote:Why the difference? AMD decided to go for multi threaded performance this time around and maintain single core performance.

Fixed that for you.

Xalphenos Wrote:Lots of programs, dolphin included, don't make good use of multi threaded performance.

This is poorly worded. Dolphin does rely on multithreaded performance, just only up to 2-3 cores.

Wording it like that makes it seem like multithreading is just something that's on/off.
