Hi there, lurker for a while and user of dolphin only for the last year.. as I have over 100 beautiful original gamecube original mint games (that I will never ever part with/sell) that I am loving playing in HD.. It's amazing, thank you!
Sadly, the newest Mac versions seem broken.
Basically, I started with 5.0, on a quad core 2.8ghz 2014 MacBook Pro with 16GB ram and Nvidia 750m, running on Sierra 10.12.6.
I then decided to try a nightly build to gain access to new features, and there was no issues for a month. My schedule was to run the update checker once a week and install whatever the latest was.
Eventually, one of the updates broke it. Dolphin can not be closed without crashing, but because of that crash, it loses all preference settings, and in fact even asks the initial pop up question on each launch..
I presumed it may have been a problem with a 5 year old computer full of junk and games/steam etc, and Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.
SO...
I completely uninstalled dolphin and did a fresh install of 5.0, and all is fine again on that machine! (except the latest versions are just better when they work and I'd love to be able to use them).
I really never thought about it again because I was sure it was my computer.
Well today, arrived my brand new MacBook Pro 15" after saving for it for precisely 18 months .. Apple delivered it with Mojave 10.14.6 curiously rather than Catalina (fine by me!). It has the Vega 20, an 8 core 9880h cpu 2.3ghz, 32Gb ram.
All I did was turn it on, set up my account..
NOTHING else.
I opened safari, downloaded the latest development build of dolphin.. I didn't even adjust settings this time or point it to any folders.. nada.. It was just a completely fresh install on a brand spanking new machine.
Try to exit dolphin.. it hangs... waited 15 minutes to no avail, had to force quit (I did send through the crash report), and when relaunched, there comes the initial welcome message again and all preferences gone
So for one more try, I decided to install it on my 2018 iMac which is only an audio production machine.. It has no games or junk of any kind installed on it. Radeon 580X. 64Gb ram. Same thing.
It's impossible that across 3 different OSES, one brand new Mac, one one year old Mac, and one 5 year old mac, that all computers are broken lol.
With the current MacBook Pro, I haven't connected controllers at this stage (in case my sn30 pro was causing the issue previously), and I tried both disabling graphics switching and forcing the Vega 20 at all times, as well as enabling the default gfx switch mode. It really couldn't be more of a virgin machine, honestly.
I realise it is not an official release version.. BUT.. I must say I am really surprised that I can't find more mention of this or that such a fundamental basic has not been noticed by the coders?
I don't even know if 5.0 official works on Mojave - at this stage all references to dolphin on my MacBook are gone, as I did a complete uninstall using the "find any file" app to make sure nothing was left over... however, if someone can confirm I am safe to install official release 5.0, well, it's better than nothing, and I suppose I can install the very latest version on bootcamp.....
Anyway, I just thought it made sense to report it regardless, in case for some reason it has been completely missed by the devs somehow. Two put a time frame on it, I would say it's around 3 months that it's been "broken", i.e when I first had issues on the old computer.
Thanks for bearing with me, and I look forward to constructive dialogue and hopefully being able to help somebody else in future.
Cheers, Ted.
