Yes, my "please report to the vendor!" mantra is rather optimistic. It might not help your device (you rarely get "major" driver updates for a released device), but it may help the next one. And things don't improve if you do nothing
I just hope such things actually get down to the driver devs themselves - having experienced it from that angle, it seems there's no good way to report issues. And I can guarantee you if the devs knew they'll be doing their best to solve it - they actually care about their product (despite it possibly seeming otherwise from the consumer end...)
