Hello there! I'm thinking about purchasing a MSI GT72 Laptop. Would I be able to play games like SMG2, Wind Waker, Pokemon XD at best settings?

Here are the laptop's specs:

Processor: i7-4720HQ, 8x3,6GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M.
16GB RAM

Would it be a worthy purchase? Let's say I have a $2,3k budget. Are Gaming Laptops even worth the price?
Thanks.

Briefly: No. For a $2300 budget, maybe get a $1700 desktop, $200 monitor (assuming you don't have one), and a $400 notebook for whatever portable stuff you need to do.

Not that you need to spend $1700 to get a good gaming desktop! A machine at ~$1000 would still be great- but it does sound like you want to overspec and future-proof.

Well I guess it's far too early for any next gen emulation, so maybe I shouldn't bother buying anything overly expensive. That's the desktop I planned to buy (but held out on it)

Motherboard: MSI Z97 GAMING 3, Intel Z97, 4xDDR3
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked
RAM: 16GB

Since I don't play many PC games, I suppose it wouldn't be worth of it mostly for Dolphin.

How about a desktop CPU inside a laptop ?
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9752-clevo-p750zm-p-7850.html?wconfigure=yes
Choose:
_ i7 4790k (with maximum turbo boost : 4.4GHz . Note that the i7 4790 is 0.4GHz slower)
_GTX 980M (8.0GB)
_IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU ( DO NOT SKIP THIS OPTION otherwise your laptop will overheat)
For emulation , CPU is alway the bottleneck . GTX 980M is abit faster than GTX 960 and it has more Vram . Anyway GTX 960 can handle 4k resolution just fine
This is how a customizable laptop look like :

It's much cheaper than that MSI crap and more powerful like a super rig . I'm sure you will able to max out 99.9% games

Thanks for the advice. Can't order from that link though, since I live in Europe and it seems to be an U.S. thing.

Yeah, i7+980Ti is overkill. My suggested config for your usecase (mainly emulation and still keeping some space for PC gaming) would be an i5-4690K (don't forget an aftermarket cooler!) and a GTX 960 (or even 750Ti).

I definitely don't suggest any gaming laptop, unless you *really* need to play Metroid Prime on the train.
