As I've stated before:
-servers will always be desktops (or racks)
-workstations will always be desktops
-htpcs will always be desktops
-enthusiast gaming systems will always be primarily desktops
-hobbyists/enthusiasts/hardware modders will always choose desktops
Laptops will never completely replace desktops just as smartphones will never completely replace laptops. They each have their own niche in the market. Everyone will continue to have laptops for writing word documents/powerpoint/excel/etc. and making content in general. Smartphones as a form factor are simply too small to do certain things as well as a laptop, just as laptops are too small to do certain things as well as a desktop. The real question is what is the form factor "good enough" for?

"Normally if given a choice between doing something and nothing, I’d choose to do nothing. But I would do something if it helps someone else do nothing. I’d work all night if it meant nothing got done."
