So this happened to my Dell XPS 15z, after waking from sleep (closed lid), it instead booted, and ran some intel menu. I ran a diagnostic and it said "no hard drive detected". I restarted it and now it works fine.

I used it outside right before for around 10 minutes, it's a little cold, maybe -10C. So maybe the drive was just a little frozen. (the fire alarm went of and I was in the middle of installing a printer). What do you think happened? Btw never had a problem using my phone outside.
Specs: intel i5 3570k @ 3.4GHz;

It's probably nothing to worry about. But I'd suggest taking backups just in case.
Also you might want to disconnect and reconnect the HDD and check it with AIDA64 or something to see if it's "healthy"
I check my HDD's regularly with AIDA64 and one can never be to careful.

I don't want to worry you but the same thing happenend to one of my laptops, until it finally failed. Carefully reattach the HD as Duke said and run some deep scan on your hd.

It could also just be an aberration and be nothing to worry about. I've had weird things happen one time or another that never happened again. You just never know. If it happens again, worry, if not, don't worry about it.
