IIRC Kirby's Air Ride and Mario Kart Double Dash are the only two games with LAN support, while the two Phantasy Star Online games are the only ones with online modes. Kirby and Mario Kart would likely perform poorly if you tried to play them in LAN mode over the Internet, because the latency would be too high. For those games, netplay might work better. PSO works fine over the Internet, since it was designed to be played that way. You still can't type, though, which makes communication a pain.
