Lag Issues

I just downloaded this emulator yesterday and I seem to have a severe lag problem. Under normal circumstances the game (I've only ever played RE4 with it) runs fine, but whenever there's a framerate drop it seems to never recover. I'd be fine if there was a bit of a frame drop during sometimes, but the fact that it persists is highly annoying and makes the game almost unplayable, any advice for fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
