Question
Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I apologize if this has been a topic of conversation somewhere else but I googled it and couldn't find an explanation to why the Huawei Mate 20/P30 (that are apparently slower for Android gaming in general) are faster and generally more stable for Dolphin emulation. It bugs me even more knowing that although it is the same Mali G76 it actually has more cores on the Exynos - 12 - than on the Kirin - 10.

Anyway, can someone explain that to me?

Thank you very much!

Phones have different ways of managing thermals and/or frequency according to the governor assigned by a specific OEM.

In the case of Exynos vs Kirin, it might depend also on how Samsung and Huawei implemented their respective GPU drivers. Plus that Samsung uses their custom Mongoose core which might not be optimized for some games/emulators.

Where have you seen that ? I don't find comparison with exynos 9820 and Kirin 980.
But if I could give a response, I would bet on drivers.

I saw a video on YouTube, comparing the mate 20 to the s10e. Other than that, I actually tested it myself, I installed dolphin on a mate 20 at the local store and it was much smoother.

Anyway, I thought the drivers were supplied by ARM, just like the Adreno are supplied by Qualcomm.

Yeah, I didn't know that before I switched phones. The worst thing is that I really like everything else about the phone. The screen, the camera and the overall size of it. But unfortunately only the US version has the snapdragon on it. I'm thinking about the Oneplus, but I know the phone doesn't have wireless charging and the camera is noticeably worse than the s10.

Not sure what to do now lol I really enjoy playing these classic games on the go.

It could be one of two things(or both), the quality of GPU drivers is better in the Kirin or the Kirin chipset has better thermal management for longer sustained cpu loads(Kirin is built on a 7nm dye compared to 8nm of the Exynos).

I think you're right because if I configure the dolphin app to power saving mode it performs more stable lol

Buying an old flagship with SD845 such as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S or even the first Black Shark should be enough. They're currently around $400 if you can find a good deal. I'd recommend LG phones also but those tend to throttle because of bad thermal management.

I dont know where your stetement comes from. Mali drivers were the worst all time, while recently much better, however i believe still do not match other vendors.
Just look carefully https://www.anandtech.com/show/14072/the-samsung-galaxy-s10plus-review/10

Didnt you make mistake with chip numbers?
