Just trying to use a generic gamepad with Metroid Prime

Hi, everyone. I got Dolphin in order to play Metroid Prime, but I've run into a major problem: as long as the game is running, the controller does absolutely nothing.

I've stalked tons of other boards, and found out a lot of things that COULD be causing it but aren't. Maybe someone can help me find out what IS the problem!

For reference:

(a) Here's the GCPad configuration...

(b) And the general configuration tab...

© The controller I'm using is by the brand EtekCity. I got it off Amazon, here's the page with the specs: http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity%C2%AE-Con...ty+gamepad

(d) One random thing I've noticed: each time that I go to the GCPad config tab, the little red dots are greyed out and I can't modify any buttons. I have to reselect "Input/0/Generic USB Joypad", even if it was already listed, for Dolphin to read the controller's presence.

If you guys can help me... well, let's put it this way, it'll be WAY better for my blood pressure! I've gotten terribly frustrated messing around with this. Any help would be appreciated!

I had the same problem, and thanks to you I could solve it!

You have to start the game, then go to Pad GC settings and select again the usb controller

easy Smile

Without analog triggers, you'll likely find MP to be somewhat difficult, particularly if you like sequence breaking the game. Several sequence breaking/speedrunning tricks become impossible (mainly the ghetto jump and l-lock spring space jump, since l-locking Samus's view won't work properly).

You also might want to set a Memory Card. Savestates are very iffy, you shouldn't rely on them as your only method of saving. MP1 has pretty frequent save stations so you don't really need savestates at all.

...until you reach the Phazon Mines, that is.

Still shouldn't rely on savestates.

@ Ziordo: Oh my gosh, thanks a million! How cool, too, that my confusion actually helped you with your problem. Smile I was seriously just about at the point of tearing my hair out.

@ Everyone: Thanks for the advice on the save-states, as well. That probably would make sense to get a dedicated memory card.
