Hello!

In the latest versions of "Dolphin" when using the option "Built-In Database Of Game Names", a small inconvenience appears, since now all Japanese games appear in the list with their names in Kanji instead of being romanized (as it was several versions ago).

When this happens, Japanese games always appear below in the list and not alphabetically (also that it is difficult to know what game it is).

Example:

Could it be left again as it was before or put an option to choose which method to use?

Thanks!

Does this only happen with Japanese GameCube games, or also with Japanese Wii games?

Hi!

For Wii I only have some WiiWare games and no, this does not happen, it seems to only happen with GameCube games.

The thing with the GameCube is that the GameCube language setting doesn't have separate options for Japanese and English (and we use the GameCube language setting to determine the language to display the name of GameCube games in). So in order to avoid the problem of always having Japanese GameCube games show up in English (which would be a problem for people who have Japanese as their native language), the logic was changed so that Japanese games will show up in Japanese. This does make things more inconvenient for people who don't know much Japanese, but since most people who play the Japanese versions of games do know Japanese, I figured it was an acceptable trade-off.

What could be done is adding a separate fourth language setting (in addition to the interface language, the GameCube language and the Wii language) that sets the language that game names should be displayed in, instead of having it always use the GameCube or Wii language setting, but I don't know if having that many different language settings is going to be confusing for people...

Hi!

I understand what you say, but at least in my case I play a lot of Japanese games (fighting / action games usually) and I don't know Japanese and how is the list right now (all languages that are not Japanese first, then comes the Japanese games, losing the alphabetical order) is not at all comfortable, besides that if I don't look the banner, I don't know sometimes what game it is.

I don't know if you could put an option to choose whether to show the Japanese games on the list as Kanji or not.

Mine is just a suggestion, and everything is alright if you can't or don't feel like changing it

Thanks!

I saw that in the last revisions you were able to put an option so that the Japanese games in the list are not in Kanji, thank you very much for that!

It only affects Wii games, though. (It wasn't really intended for changing how the game list behaves, but rather which language is used when the game is running, but it did also have the effect of changing how the game list shows Wii games.)

Strange, since in my case it works for both consoles (GameCube and Wii), not only for the Wii.

Huh, interesting... Maybe I overlooked something about how it works, then. Well, as long as it works for you!
