I dont know why but I was hoping for a bigger jump in performance. unrealistic expectations!

bigger jump in performance?
power consumption and heat is a not unrelevant factor to determine the performance of a cpu i think that ivy bridge will run 20% cooler and with less power consumption looking at the TDP more space for overclocking...

Quote:power consumption and heat is a not unrelevant factor to determine the performance of a cpu You really should avoid double negatives. Just say "is a relevant factor". Intel is targeting a lower TDP for its next generation. Ivy bridge mobile is going to target 17w TDP instead of the normal 35w TDP. 95w TDP is being reserved for the hexacore chips and some higher value (probably 120w TDP) for the octacore chips later in the year. Keep in mind the TDP includes the IGP. So sandy bridges TDP is actually much lower than 95w with the IGP disabled (probably around 70w TDP without it). The TDP is being lowered faster than anyone realizes. I read an excellent article about why intel is doing this the other day but can't seem to find it for some reason.

link it if you find that article...
who knows what comes with arm, windows 8 and the future... lowering the tdp and maintaining the performance in that scales, shows how much room there is... the generated heat in the cpu is waisted energy.. (maintaing stability... and so on i know, my english is not my best language to talk about that stuff) "Energy conversion efficiency" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landauer's_principle http://physics.stackexchange.com/questio...p-computer the double negatives were some kind of accentuation Quote:PS. The resting brain probably uses about 20 Watts.
