Also, please use the latest version , we no longer support Dolphin 4.0 xxxx
You didn't read the guide fully , did you ? Your GPU (GTX 950) is used by default but it does not run at maximum clock speed unless you force it by software (Nvidia CP) , same thing to your CPU

Alright so here are the changes I've made

- Went back to the newest version of Dolphin
- Changed settings in Graphics -> Basic; Backend = Direct3D 12 (experimental), Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M

Everything else atm is default, are there any other specific settings other than clocking that I should change, which will drastically improve performance? I don't mind not having the highest quality graphics, but semi-decent at least if it has good frames / not that choppy.

Right now I'm comparing my settings with the settings here: Dolphin Configuration Explanation (it wont let me copy the link, so here are the images), but this seems to be not the most updated version of Dolphin so I'm not sure if I should be following this

I think I was told once that I shouldn't mess with overclocking my computer if I don't know what I'm doing, is that true? Or will I be completely fine if I follow the instructions on https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-laptop-performance-guide ?

Also when I was reading the instructions on that website, I didn't see anything about the overclocking option in Dolphin, which looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/yI0R4 , do I mess with that? If so what do I change?

Excuse my lack of knowledge, I don't have much experience in this and I'd like to make sure I don't break anything

Update: k...so ever since I changed the graphics and went to dolphin 5.0 its more choppy more often, and after a min or two it takes control of my gamecube controller (never done this before) and makes my keyboard stop working (never done this before), forcing me to unplug and re-plug it back into my computer so I can close Dolphin. I'm not sure if I misunderstood you, but is Direct3D 12 only better than OpenGL if I overclock or something? I just tried OpenGL again and it's just as choppy and ever since I messed with changes, now the "back" on the control stick doesn't work anymore, so that's great. I'm pretty sure the controller and keyboard issues are from Dolphin 5.0 because I went back to try Dolphin 4.0 - 7840 and my controller works and keyboard wasn't disabled.

So here's the differences between 4.0-7840 and 5.0
- 4.0-7840: either very choppy or very smooth (both audio & video)
- 5.0: consistently choppy (audio & video), keyboard disables after a few minutes, makes part of gamecube controller not work, player in-game moves on their own
