I'd suggest waiting, if only because it'll push prices of the current stuff down.
Laptop:
i5 520m :: 4GB RAM :: ATI 5650 (700, 900)
i5 520m :: 4GB RAM :: ATI 5650 (700, 900)
Is waiting for sandy bridge going to be worth it?

Historically intel has never done that. When they come out with a new cpu series they keep selling the old cpu series for awhile at the same price then they stop selling it and completely replace it with the new series (look at the transition from core 2 quad to i7 for an example of this).
"Normally if given a choice between doing something and nothing, I’d choose to do nothing. But I would do something if it helps someone else do nothing. I’d work all night if it meant nothing got done."
-Ron Swanson "I shall be a good politician, even if it kills me. Or if it kills anyone else for that matter. " -Mark Antony 12-18-2010, 03:28 PM
I would wait. The 2nd generation of Core i7 will be definitely better in all aspects compared to the 1st gen Core i7. You'd get better/faster built in graphics, lower heat output, all core turbo boost, new instructions for multi-media which boost performance, and so on.
