A website cost alot to upkeep, and the time to set it up does deserve some reward. I know I pay around $250 every 2 years for my site to stay up. As long as its not trying to say its the real deal, its fine by me And I don't like compiling (Im a web developer, so I never compiled in my life >.>).

Also, on the legality side of this discussion, it all depends on the license. Such as the GNU Public License:
From the GPL site:
"Does the GPL allow me to sell copies of the program for money?
Yes, the GPL allows everyone to do this. The right to sell copies is part of the definition of free software. Except in one special situation, there is no limit on what price you can charge. (The one exception is the required written offer to provide source code that must accompany binary-only release.)"
and a part of the MIT License:
"...including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software..."
All depends on how "open" the licensing is
