I know there is a Github website for it but there seems to be no documentation mentioning its purpose nor what it does different to other audio engines like XAudio 2, OpenAL, DirectSound etc.
Computer specifications:
Windows 10 Pro x64 | Ryzen 3700X | ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi Motherboard | 16GB 3600MHz | Geforce 1070Ti | Corsair AX760 PSU

it just supports all the platforms we support. Since now a days the audio backends are just a sink to send sound to, there is no real reason to have a million audio backends. They all pretty much operate the same.

OpenAL also supports everything we support, but it's buggy and frustrating to work with. Cubeb was reasoned to be a better option so the project decided to go with that.

I believe the eventual plan is to drop the other backends over time.
