1xIR is even a bit better than the real hardware. Try to also enable real XFB and you'll get a reduction in the color space.

And indeed, we lack to emulate the 3xMSAA mode, but it is used by close to no game at all. Hint: Every game which is fine with disabled XFB does NOT use MSAA.

Whoops.

Also why do you assume all TVs "game modes" work as advertised? Many don't.

I'm curious to what your definition of upscaling is though, as I can't really think of any other way to translate that

I guess (s)he means any scaling algorithm other than nearest-neighbor, though I doubt people may want a "game mode" with nearest-neighbor scaling.

Upscaling without any extra image processing, just a straight pixel scaler. No filtering, no softening, no sharpening. That's what the x800D Game Mode does. I can use the same style upscaling on my desktop monitor, out my graphics card, etc. "Upscaling" is a dirty word. People think it means applying filters to smooth the image and make it almost look higher resolution, but it doesn't always mean that.

Forgot to touch on the cables. Yes, composite plays a big role in the softening of the image due to a fuzzy RGB analog signal being crammed down one channel. But that shouldn't discredit the final quality of the image sent from the GC/Wii, where MSAA is being performed at least in some games. Real hardware vs emulated 4k, the real hardware was nowhere near as ugly as that direct capture from Dolphin makes it seem. Factor in an analog low quality connection to the screen and it looks far more easy on the eyes.
