There are single threaded benchmark and multi-threaded benchmark . A certain CPU performs well with multi threaded application doesn't mean that CPU can do the same with single-threaded performance . Passmark lump them all together . Therefore , Passmark is stupid
FX 8350 outperforms i5 3570k in multi-threaded application . Obviously , 8 cores 8 threads vs 4 cores 4 threads
However , Dolphin is a dual core application .
Not a good example but :
Imagine :
FX 8350 is like "8 normal person" , i5 3570k is like "4 strong person"
8np vs 4sp -> 8p win but it's not an easy fight (FX 8350 is not a true 8 cores CPU . Infact , it's still slower than i7 3770k 4 cores 8 threads)
Dolphin performance is like :
2np vs 2sp -> 2sp win easily

Btw , you can look at Starcraft 2 benchmark . SCII is a dual core application

Oh so basically it's quality over quantity right?
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

I don't know what that experience could have possibly been but regardless of what it was this is an extremely irrational way to make purchase decisions. Evaluate the pros and cons of using each product then buy the product that suites your needs better. An Intel cpu is going to give you much better performance in dolphin for the same price and with less power consumption. There is really no benefit in using an AMD cpu for emulation or PC gaming.

deepfree Wrote:What if I buyed this AMD FX-8350 X8 4.0GHz

It's a bit faster but it's nowhere near the performance of recent Intel cpus or the performance requirements of some of the more demanding games in dolphin.

In some multi-threaded applications. There are many multi-threaded applications that will run faster on the 3570K.

I should point out that passmark is also integer based and using large amounts of cache. Both of which bode well for the piledriver microarchitecture.

SCII is triple core, not dual core.

I think that's a poor way of wording it as it greatly oversimplifies things. But in a nutshell, yes.

Where did you read that ?
Notebookcheck benchmarker said SCII is a dual core application . However , a Quad core i7 still performs better than Dual core i7 due to background processing

Perhaps you're right. The benchmarks I've seen show a pretty significant difference between 2 and 3 cores though.

So I got the CPU from AMD and I am happy to say that it can play Super Mario Galaxy 1,2 Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Twin Snakes, and a whole lot moreSmile so it works a lot better then the previous I had, I do respect Intel and intel might be the next I buy for again sometime but for now I am quite content with the cpu from AMDSmile I also wanted to try out the metroid games I had for my wii and once again it worked out quite wellSmile
