Yes you can run many games fine with an AMD cpu in dolphin but you can run even more better without having to spend way more money going Intel. Especially if you are using a laptop where AMD can't compensate for their poor performance with more wattage like they do with desktop, that combo is the worst you can have in dolphin.

Yeah I aggree with you too that Intel is outperforming an Amd cpu but cost efficiency. Sure they will outperform because you pay for it nearly double. But new revisions I see that optimising emulation is getting better and this is good news for us as Amd owners who loves to play wii games on PC platform. Big Grin

Depends on which products you are considering… the G3258 is even cheaper than the X4 860K and performs much better. The i5 4670K/4690K is not too much more expensive than the FX-8350 (and certainly not twice as expensive) either.

Here is a dolphin benchmark for you: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/1027

Amd's clocked to the max AMD FX-9590 220 Watt cpu is a bit slower than the lowly clocked old 2600k 95 Watt intel cpu, never mind the newer models. That amd cpu costs 240 $ : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113347
With the same price you get a 4690K which is more than 50% faster in dolphin and spends 130 less Watts to work! Now give me a good reason to suggest AMD for dolphin if you can   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372

My computer knowledge comes from 8086 & 80286 Intel Cpu's and Cyrix (R.I.P). So I know what I need and expectations since first and second generation pentiums. Now I only think Cost and Efficiency. I wasted many dollars to old Pentium HT's and dual cores before. Now I am happy with Amd and I can feel the warm of my pockets if I get what I need without paying too much. Wink
I'm not questioning your computer skills and knowledge, just saying that it still isn't the best idea to use an AMD CPU for Dolphin. Also, as Link_to_the_past mentions, an AMD uses more power than Intel CPUs yet they still have worse performance in Dolphin, so it isn't the most power and cost efficient.

There's The Last Story which is reportedly very intensive, Twilight Princess's Hyrule Field (completely "unlocked") is also quite intensive but not as intensive as it used to be thanks to improvements.

Wii Play
Wii Play Motion
Virtua Tennis 4

Many more but I cant remember the names. I can play all of them at full speed most time during gaming. Minor fps drops without notice.
Well, here's the difference: a good Intel CPU will be able to run those at full speed even in the most intensive parts, not just "most time". Even with LLE (although that's less useful nowadays with most games as HLE gets better).

I know you dont question my skills and knowledge but you dont understand yet what I want to tell. I just want to tell that cost efficiency. What you get against what you pay. Thats all. Simple and easy. I am not talking about or any comparison between Intel or Amd at dolphin. I am just talking about my satisfaction with last revision and tell that It is very good improvement for AMD users who wants to play wii games on their Pc's. Otherwise of course Intel outperforms Amd when you talk about the performance. I also aggree that intel has way better compatibility with Dolphin. I cant say opposite.

With "most time" I dont mean huge performance impacts. 2 or 3 fps is not noticable from me when gaming with last revision. I played all games 1st and 2nd levels which is at above and didnt feel slowdown but FPS indicator shows sometime 25 and 27 Fps when open areas and crowded places. Especially tested with games which I get poor performance before.

I will try Twilight Princess's. I checked from wiki and It looks like an adventure/fantastical game. Honestly if I get poor performance I will not think to miss anything because I dont like such and similar games. But I will try it. Wink

See my post above regarding amd cost efficiency in dolphin, it isn't cost efficient by any means... You will even get a higher electrical bill to pay on top of it all.

Big Grin Haha another one. I think you guys have a problem with Amd owners. You also not understand me. I think I cant explain what I want to say or my english is not very well. Look! I am an Amd user ok. Already bought Amd cpu, amd mainboard, amd Gpu etc. because of old market and cost situations between Intel and Amd and also budget effect. Simply I am talking for who has Amd pc before. I am not talking about new cpu's, scores, benchmarks, cpu prices and market situations. Capitalism is in everywhere you can not stop it. Of course Intel and Amd in a racing to provide best articles for consumers. I am not talking this. I am talking about; with this new revision, you can use your old Amd system better than before and no necessary to pay for a new rig. With cost efficiency I mean that. I mean no necessary to buy a new computer only for poor performance at Dolphin. New revision improvements provides us more better gaming experience against before. Thats all guys. I hope this time you understand me.

Also I want to add that I am not an Amd fun or something. When I consider to buy a new pc, I check my pocket and buy who provides me much better cost with efficiency. Old situations showed me to buy an Amd so I bought it. Using it since nearly 5 years and still It is performing quite well for me. I want to share my sons video playing and enjoying with Virtua Tennis 4. Take care everyone and thanks to developers for efforts on Dolphin to let us fun together at PC.

Amd got problem with emulations or any programs that require strong single core/thread performance. Cost efficiency? That's the reason why i3 and i5 models exist. I hope Amd's Zen will put up a better fight next year Smile

On paper, AMD Zen looks like it's on par with, if not slightly better than, Haswells. If they can keep prices competitive, I think it'll be an easy recommendation for folks looking to upgrade. But that won't be until late 2016. The desktop market is stale right now and high end performing CPUs aren't really needed for most of the general population. Even if Zen turns out to be a great chip against Intel...who knows what the future will bring for AMD?

Set@mon is right about the the new revisions though. Ever since FioraAeterna and Magumagu implemented the JIT speedups, AMD chips have been much more viable with Dolphin emulation. Sure, there are games where it's still janky to try to play, but for the most part, it isn't completely unreasonable to recommend an FX + mobo combo for under 70 dollars for super budget builds.

Hahaha, that being said, get an Intel chip if anyone is deadset up upgrading!
