Passing the program's directory using argv[0] does sound simpler than fixing the HBC, but I don't know if/when it will be fixed.

Homebrew games require a few specific settings. First, you need to use LLE audio like the message says. Many homebrew games also require enabling Real XFB if you want to get any video output, but I don't know if this is one of them. If it's possible to run the game without Real XFB, you should do so, because otherwise you can't run the game above native resolution. If it still freezes with both of these settings enabled, there's probably something else wrong. It's possible that the problem tueidj mentioned can prevent you from playing the game.
