Is it possible to move a save state to the memory card?

Hey guys,

Sorry if there's already an answer to this out there, but I couldn't find it if there is. I was wondering if it's possible to move a save state to the memory card, if that makes sense. Here's some context:
I've been using Dolphin to play Animal Crossing (GC version), and occasionally used save states as well as saving to the memory card. However, after loading the game I realized a villager moved away, which is irreversible after the memory card is loaded. I did have a save state where the villager was still there, but apparently if you load the state and try saving in-game, the game says the game data you're trying to save doesn't match the memory card data (paraphrased; I can find the exact quote if needed).

So basically is it possible to replace the memory card data with save state data? Any other suggestions are welcome!

It's not possible to simply move data from a savestate to a memory card, because the two use completely different formats. Only the game knows how to convert between those formats, so if the game doesn't let you save to the memory card, there isn't really anything you can do. If you want to avoid this in the future, make backups of your memory card often.

Okay, thank you! Just out of curiosity, would it ever be possible to figure out how the game converts between formats and develop something to mimic that?

It would be possible. You basically have to figure out how what the game keeps in RAM maps to what it keeps in the save file. But if you're going to do something like that, you might as well look into removing the game's check for matching memory card data, or hack the villager back into the save file directly without going through the game.
