I'm asking a lot of questions, aren't I?

I was wondering if the i3-4330 (£90) would be worth the extra money over the Pentium G3258 (£48). I don't plan on overclocking. I currently have the AMD Athlon X4 750K if that's any help.

Thanks in advance!
[CPU - AMD Athlon X4 750K] [GPU - AMD Radeon HD 7770] [RAM - 8GB @ 1866MHz]

At stock speeds, the i3-4330 will have a 300Mhz advantage plus HT to offload system process to, so it will be slightly faster than the G3258. But put the G3258 in a Z97 board and bring it up to 4.4-4.7 Ghz, and it demolishes the i3

Demolishes? Not even close. It's better sure but the g3258 hasn't demolished the i3 in anything.

I thought both i3 and g3258 oc perform very well in dolphin for a majority of games assuming you have a decent gpu.

But whenever I see someone defend an i3, I always think it is the entry level version of the intel core i-series processors and its purpose is just that. You're comparing a newly released entry level intel core i-series cpu with a cpu that was brought back from way back except now it is able to be overclocked.

In the end I would say get the i3-4330 if you don't want to spend extra money on buying a quality mobo and quality cooler, since you won't need to overclock to such extreme speeds.

Get a g3258 if you have or can buy a nice mobo with aftermarket cooling and be prepared to overclock, otherwise it sucks.

If you watch emulation videos, you'll see the g3258 oc'ed sucks in running pcsx2 compared to an i3 that runs on stock frequency.

Um, the G3258 was not brought back from way back. Using the current Pentium Haswell architecture that was released along with the Haswell i-series, it was just given the ability to overclock.

For the G3258, you can reach the max overclock of 4.7 Ghz on the stock cooler, and Z97 boards are getting cheaper.

I don't know what you've been watching, but all that I've seen has shown it performing great, just like in Dolphin.

Hyperthreading is useless for PCSX2 . I actually have lower performance with HT
No way in hell the i3 could beat that Pentium .
Btw your Athlon is ok , why do you even need to switch to those dual core CPUs ?
i think you better save more money to get i7 4790k or sth along that line

No one has shown games where the g3258 demolishes the i3 yet.

All you have to do is OC the G3258 though, and it'll outpace the i3-4330 in Dolphin. Go high enough, and it'll "destroy" the i3-4330. You don't have to go looking for any game in particular, just turn off the Framelimit. That, or start playing The Last Story...

Consider that in the last benchmark we had, an i3-4130 (which is just 100 MHz slower than the i3-4330, thus a fair comparison) got around 9 minutes. A G3258 OC'ed at 4.4GHz scored a little over 7 minutes. Bump that up to 4.7GHz, and that translates into a lot of difference in performance.
