Well I can buy the aforementioned black edition cpu for 80 from a friend or should I scrap the amd build and build an i5?

The x3 is a triple core 3ghz chip and the 965 is a quad core black edition at 3.4ghz.

I'm hesitant to spend the 80 dollars on a platform that is nearing end of life. I would also like to play mario galaxy 2 since I beat the first but never invested significant time into the second. I'm also playing metroid prime and find the slowdown in areas to really affect the gameplay. I'm wondering if the 3.4 (willing to overclock) would be sufficient for my needs. If I go i5 I've got to buy a mobo, cpu, and ram, since my ram is ddr2. That would cost around 400.

the 965 black edition with 3.4ghz is enough...
400mhz more in dolphin are easy 5-15fps
if not buy a 30-60dollar cooler and get the hell out of him
EDIT by neobrain: that pic was kinda annoying..

Part of me wants to just do a full upgrade. I wish i had a frys or microcenter nearby. Microcenter just had a great bundle sale, but the closest microcenter is 2 hours away from me.
