Hi all

I was looking at the Gigabyte P15-F which has an i7-4710MQ (up to 3.5GHz) and an Nvidia GTX-850M.

Will this be enough to play Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda TP (GC) without lag?

Thanks in advance.

native 1x, 2x ,2.5x ,3x , 4x IR
Which internal resolution you will choose to play SMG at ?
Zelda TP is out of the question since Hyrule Field is too much demanding for that CPU

With 2 Core Turbo enabled it should be just fine considering how a Ivy Bridge CPU can get 30fps now due to the new twilight princess hack.

Native's fine for me - unless you think it could do more? I just got to be sure before I splash out that amount of money.

Only video I could find of SMG2 is of an Acer-772G which has a very similar GPU performance-wise - a GTX-760M - according to the uploader he gets 60-80 FPS without Fraps.

I mentioned SMG2 and TP as they appear to be the most demanding; as long as I can play any game on Dolphin without lag, I'll buy it.

Only pain about the P15F is it doesn't have GDDR5. £200 extra for a P34G nets me a GTX860M with GDDR5 and... an uglier chassis.

The only problem is the cooling design . IMO the gigabyte as so many OEM brand (include Apple MacBook) use OEM thermal paste which will die fast
Well , it's better if you configure your own laptop
You live in UK , right ?
Here :
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/gaming-laptops/
You can get i7 4710QM + GTX 860M GDDR5 + Arctic Cooling MX-4 (choose thermal paste via configuration) for the similar price tag as P15F
There are many laptops to choose : 13.3 Optimus V , 17.3" Optimus V and 15.6" Optimus V

As a UK person, I can fairly confidently say Scan (http://www.scan.co.uk) should be your first port of call, as they have just about the best prices, range, and customer support out of anything I've dealt with. They also build their own laptops for when there isn't an OEM one that'll do, which seem to be pretty good in terms of price, build quality and cooling performance according to Hexus.

For clarification, I'm not being paid to write this or anything, I'm just a very satisfied repeat customer.

_Only 3 options to choose , 1 option (LG136) seems to be somewhat decent but when I choose i7 4710MQ , the price will skyrocket
_Can't choose custom thermal paste
_Does not include Premium Onkyo Speaker (Made in Japan)
_More expensive than the 17.3" Optimus V
_13" is so small
I would not buy that if I was you
Keep in mind that most gaming laptop on pcspecialist are OEM by Sager . Price are unbeatable

Have you tried scrolling past the ultrathin laptop section? Also, I'm pretty sure if you phoned them or showed up at their shop you could ask for real thermal paste, if they don't use it already. I wouldn't be surprised if they were using MX4 or something already, as their business model doesn't involve making things that break rapidly.

I did but their 17.3" and 15.6" model is too expensive for the @OP to buy

Bleh... the Scan laptops aren't very sexy. Yes, that's a factor for me. Plus there're only 2 i7s and they're past £800.

Am I mistaken in thinking I need a 3.4GHz+ CPU to handle games like SMG2 and TP nicely? Only reason I'm looking at i7s. I currently have an i5 Ivy Bridge and GT640M that runs everything at about 80% speed, which is horrible enough, but those two games fare around 50%.

I've got a habit of replacing stock thermal paste with some PK-1 or PK-2 so that wouldn't be a problem (cue tricky disassembly...).

The amount of configurations on that PC Specialist page are insane.
