IR Recognition Error

So I have been told numerous times that a Sensor Bar is just a pair of Infrared lights, and if I just plugged my bar into an idling Wii or Wii U, that the remote would work normally with Dolphin. So I tested it with Mario Kart, but no matter what I do, the cursor does not show up.

Have I done something wrong? I'm in Real Wiimote config.

I believe a wii u will disabled the bar if no wiimotes are connected.

Okay, I'll test it on my Wii to see if that's the case. I'll edit my post to avoid a double post with the results, so stay tuned.

I wasn't actually able to test it, as the moment I plugged a Nunchuk into my Wiimote, it lost connection and Dolphin refuses to recognize it as a remote at all.
