I went for the iPhone 5 simply because the SIII's screen was too big for me. I use my phone one-handed a lot, so that big a phone is impossible for me. Since everyone is different, I'm just gonna make a list of things that might affect your decision.
1) Screen size: do you want to have a very large screen, or a one-handed phone? 2) Does speed matter to you? (This question hardly matters because of how close the two phones are) 3) Does screen quality, like PPI and color accuracy, affect your purchase decision more than screen size? The iPhone 5 has the better screen in both of these aspects. 4) Is NFC very useful in your area? Some areas have NFC in stores already, and the iPhone doesn't have NFC, so SIII'S would be the better choice. Finally, 5) Which OS do you like more?

I was gonna make a similar topic, so instead I'll just post here.
Ipad3 vs Samsung Galaxy tab 2? The concerns are -Android vs.iOS, would probably prefer Android (never tried iOS, not sure about restrictions etc. how limiting they are) -Pixels, The Samsung tab has decent of them, but I'll be reading books for college study on it for the next 4 years, I may want the extra from iPad (Although I've been using wikipedia mostly yet, faster to look up than books) -Development/language usage, I'm not currently interested in making a mobile app, as I am busy with other stuff, but may want to do that later, I have an actionscript physics engine I may want to port over to something more cross platform, so I'd like to run it on the tab. -Obviously I also value the cash saved from the tab.

I'd go with the iPad 3 on this one. Android doesn't have enough tablet apps IMO, and the iPad 3's screen absolutely demolishes that of the Tab.
If you jailbreak your iPad, you'll get a pretty open environment, although last time I checked there weren't all that many apps on Cydia. Android is more open and customizable, but I haven't found a need to customize the interface on my iPad or my Android phone (which I use for testing applications). I'm more familiar with Android development than iOS (I'm a java programmer mostly ATM), and I have to say that it can be a bit of a pain to develop for sometimes. If you just plan on making some quick apps, iOS is definitely the way to go. The way you do GUIs is so much nicer than it is for android. You basically can just choose a preset and go. Android requires a lot of XML coding, and then linking that XML to a specific class and interacting with things through that. It is great system, but when your app has a lot of screens it can take a while to make. If you have a complicated app that doesn't fit one of the presets, they are pretty much equal IMO. I would go with iPad. But I'm not you, so you have to decide what sounds better to you.

The other side of that argument though, admin89, is that the iPhone 5 did much better in drop tests. Although its complete bs that the color can chip off with use n
