Depends. By now, most people who want a GBA emulator on their iOS devices have jailbroken and downloaded one.

Well of course we all know that Apple won't allow any sort of emulators on the App Store. That doesn't change the fact that it can still be made and distributed without the means of jailbreaking or putting it on the App Store. I'm sure you guys are aware of RetroArch and GBA4iOS. You can easily just distribute Dolphin the same way GBA4iOS is distributed through Apple Enterprise which includes having app provisioning profiles etc. there are no gameboy emulators allowed on the App Store however you can still download it through the browser. Likewise can't Dolphin just be distributed exactly how Riley Testut (gba iPhone emulator developer) did? Keep in mind I have both those emulators without jailbreaking or (obviously) downloading through the App Store.

It would be the fact that it needs jailbroken permissions in order to run. Well I'll be honest I've been holding out on jailbreaking just cause I haven't seen any real "must have" use for it. But if jailbreaking means getting Dolphin to run I'm all for it. it of course wouldn't be stable but we would need to start somewhere for it to run well in the future. 07-04-2014, 02:39 AM

You guys just forgot one thing: currently, none of current developers wants to do or are interested in developing an iOS port, so, even if you can distribute the app in the iDevices or find a way to use JIT without jailbreak, this won't magically make a iOS version of Dolphin appear...
Furthermore, the Android port only exists because Sonicadvance1 and SeannyM are interested in it and actively develops the Android version, so, I think you guys should find someone interested in developing the iOS port first...

Sonicadvance1 is the one who should get full credit for the port here. Sure, I made some useful things like multitouch and whatnot, but full credit to Sonicadvance1 for making the Android/ARM port possible But anyways, finding an interested iOS developer would be a good place to start. Myself, I don't even own an iOS device. (anymore) If iOS was more development friendly, I might consider buying a device. But it's not, so I prefer Android. Blame Apple |
