Hi, I've been using Dolphin for a while, and I signed up because I wanted advice on my system and if a GPU upgrade would increase performance. Check the hardware board!

A new graphic card will boost performance for sure but your CPU is still not fast enough for most games
Especially APU and FX series , these CPUs are only around half the speed of the current Intel CPU due to low IPC (single thread performance) . Please check the Dolphin Benchmark for further detail (in hardware section) Also , you will need sth like i3 6100 @ 3.7GHz if you want to run most games at full speed . Perhaps , you should upgrade you GPU first . And if it didn't work , you could wait for the new AMD Ryzen and upgrade your CPU (as long as it doesn't turn out to be another Faildozer which is even worse than Phenom II) Sth like GTX 750/1050ti or a used AMD HD 7750 / R7 250 should be plenty for 1080p Laptop: Mini PC :: 12-27-2016, 12:45 AM

Hi I'm qashto, I'm a computer programmer, composer, and digital artist. I made a full game UHD texture pack for one of my favorite GameCube games, Super Mario Sunshine. I love Nintendo and was so happy when I discovered the Dolphin emulator. I can't thank everyone involved enough for all the amazing work they've done. Follow me on instagram @qashto to see my other art/music projects

Hey everyone! I am Almar and one of my few hobbies happens to be retro gaming. In an effort to rediscover some of the games I played growing up i found the Dolphin emulator and I must say it's fantastic. Way better than the others I have used for other consoles!
As well as being a retro gamer I also like to write guides for the games I play and enjoy. I decided to share them in this post instead of creating a new thread as I feel that would be rude of a new member to do. However, seeing as these guides and my website are a part of who I am, I still feel they're worth sharing and neccessary to share in my introduction. Currently I only have a few games covered for the Gamecube but I am working on covering more. Essentially when I see a game and it interests me I write guides for it if I can't find any already on the internet. Here are the guides I have so far! http://www.almarsguides.com/retro/walkth.../gamecube/ http://www.almarsguides.com/retro/walkth...tkingdoms/ http://www.almarsguides.com/retro/walkth...aitghosts/ http://www.almarsguides.com/retro/walkth...estmoonMM/ 03-01-2017, 07:18 PM

Hey there folks. Long-time Nintendo fan and old skool gamer here. Usd Dolphin a few years back on my old crap PC and quickly realised investment was needed to get it up to snuff.
I spend all week managing our IT infrastructure at work so for the most part I'm sick of dealing with hardware and haven't built a custom PC since about 2002! That's the reason I'm kicking it with a late-2015 MacBook, which is awesome, provided I don't want to do anything other than the odd retro game (SNES era). Mega low-spec but perfect for dossing about online. The time has come however to build a decent-ish PC so I can do some GC emulation and can leave the GC all boxed up in the loft. I'm currently hoovering up every bit of information I can on modern consumer CPUs, motherboards and GFX cards. The last GFX card I bought was a 3DFX Voodoo 3, which just goes to show how long ago that was. I actually preferred 2 x Voodoo 2 running SLI... I've got a lovely Dell P2715q 4K monitor sat basically doing nothing so I'll be using that as my starting point and will be looking for mobo/CPU/GPU combos that will be great for GC games at high resolutions but also nice and quick for the odd PC game at 1440p/4K. I figured a GTX 1060 6G will take care of the PC gaming pixel-shifting but I'm just researching the frankly ridiculous number of new CPUs from Intel and whether to go for a Kaby Lake i3 with high clock speed and overclocking capabilities with only dual-core (for Dolphin-first use) or Kaby Lake i5 with lower clock speed but 4 cores (for PC-first use). It's all fun and games and there seems to be a lot of conflict over whether the i3 is any better than the i5 when it comes to GC emulation, given that single-core clock speed seems to be the preference for emulation. Anyhow, I'm off to do more reading! 03-02-2017, 01:58 AM
Oh! I didn't see this thread before! I suppose I'll drop a post here too. :0
I'm AbbyStabby, a professional digital artist and animator. If you wanna look at my garbage you can find me on Tumblr, dA, and FA. I've been playing games since I was a wee bab. The Sega Genesis, N64, Gamecube, 3DS, and PS2 are my favorite consoles. My list of favorite games very long and fairly questionable. It goes without saying that I REALLY love the Dolphin. It's been helping me so much in my conquest in learning 3 dimensional drawing and allows me to have endless references for a comic I'm working on. Without the Dolphin I don't know what I'd do. So huge shout out for the team that's made everything possible!! You guys are phenomenal!! I can't say I know how active I'm going to be on here. It's been quite awhile since I've been on a forum. But I think as long as I'm fiddling with the Dolphin, I'll be taking peeks on here to see what's new and post around. Maybe make friends? Only time will tell! |
