hey everyone. I'm new to the forums, but i have a quick question regarding a rig I'm looking at and how well it'll work with dolphin.

i currently use a late 2011 macbook pro - i5 intel processor, 8gb ram, intel hd3000 graphics...
unless I'm mistaken, I've accepted theres no way to get the majority of GC or wii games to run without a lot of lag

BUT... I'm looking at buying one of the new Alienware x51 mini desktops for media use and some light gaming on my home TV. I would like to stick with the $700 entry level...
intel i3-2120 processor, 4gb ram (i have extra i can also add to it), nvidia geforce gt545 graphics.

i realize i could build my own pc and probably do so a bit cheaper, but the compact size of the x51 is a must for me.

will the dual-core i3 handle dolphin well, and be able to run games in HD without lag? I'm assuming there won't be many problems with the included graphics components.

any input? thanks a lot in advance.

Please reconsider the Alienware. You can get compact cases and mATX motherboards super easy, if size is your primary concern. The Alienware name hasn't been anything but a joke for the past 10 years, since they were bought out by Dell. Trust me-- as a previous Alienware owner (I had one of those giant Aurora systems, worst mistake of my life), I'm just trying to save you a lot of money, time, and stress. Their parts are not better than what you can get yourself and their buildsmanship is very mediocre, certainly nothing to pay extra for.

The i3 2120 is a Dual Core CPU. These days you should really be aiming for a Quad Core if you want the PC to be up to current-gen standards. You won't get much performance benefit from emulators with a Dual Core.

As for that graphics card, please look at these graphs: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+545
I need not say anything more about that. Dolphin will hate you for it. Smile

Sorry for not being very helpful, and ultimately you're free to spend your money however you like, of course. I just hope that you'll spend more time considering the alternative options.

Good luck!

Actually dolphin should be able to handle 3x IR just fine with that gpu.

It's still terrible value for money. You can build a similar spec machine with a Gigabyte GTX 560Ti for the same price, probably even less.
