Hello!

I'm going to buy a new notebook and i'm not sure about the processor. I'd like to use dolphin and want it to work properly with accaptable graphics. The price difference is about 100 euro (the one with the i7 is the more expensive one), the other specs are identical (and should work fine: GeForce® GTX 950M, 8GB ram). The i7 quadcore has 2700 mhz and the i5 dualcore 2900 mhz.
I read that dolphin is using only 2 cores, so the i5 should be a better a choice because is has more mhz. Is that correct? On the other hand the i7 is much better in general according to that list: http://www.notebookcheck.com/Mobile-Prozessoren-Benchmarkliste.1809.0.html - sorry its german. So i'm not sure, if the i5 is better for dolphin... Hope you can help me.

Greetings

Kadaj

It would be correct if both CPUs didn't have Turbo Boost feature ...
According to notebookcheck.net , The i7 5700HQ can turbo up to 3.5GHz with 4 cores active while the i5 4210H only turbo up to 3.4GHz with 2 cores active

True but you forgot about the windows background processing . Dolphin is not the only one that eat CPU resources ...
A Quad Core should be up to 20% faster than a Dual Core in Dolphin
So if you only have Dolphin in mind and you don't care about newer emulator (like Cemu , RPCS3., Xenia...) and PC games then you will be fine with that i5

thanks for your answer!

so in the end the ghz number the processor can reach with turbo boost is more important than the regular cpu? i don't have only dolphin in mind, but i definitely want to play xenoblade and the last story (its almost impossible with my current Intel® Core™ i5 (3.Generation) 3230M - 2,6 ghz). i dont need to play with max graphics, i just want the games to run smoothly with medium details. if both processors can handle that i would take the i7.

Xenoblade is not really demanding . My i5 4300M @ 2.5GHz (Power Saving Mode) can run it full speed all the time
In the other hand , The Last Story is definitely hard to get full speed all the time , it is the most demanding game of the Wii . My i7 4700MQ @ 3.4GHz (Turbo Mode) barely run it full speed . So I think you should get the i7 version
