Hi,
Looking to get a new laptop, so investigating CPUs.
Budget: up to £550.00 (approx $700.00)
Use: to emulate a variety of wii/gc games with minimal slow down; up scaling not so critical.
Other info: 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, UK retailers
Focussing on clock speed and single threaded performance, the two contender CPUs I've come across, so far are:
i3-8130U
2.2 GHz to 3.4 GHz
2 cores, 4 threads
4 MB SmartCache
Bus: 4 GT/s OPI
Pass Mark - single thread performance score 1,931
VS
i7-7500U
2.7 GHz (2.9 GHz TDP-up) to 3.5 GHz
2 cores, 4 threads
4 MB SmartCache
Bus: 4 GT/s OPI
Pass Mark - single thread performance score 1,921
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-7500U-vs-Intel-i3-8130U/2863vs3225
I'm surprised that the single threaded performance of the i3-8130U came out marginally better than the i7-7500U, considering the i7 has a higher clock speed, and rest of the specs appearing to be equal. The i3 is obviously 8th gen over 7th but what is giving it the edge I wander?
Anyway, I be interested to see which one of these CPUs you guys would recommend or perhaps another CPU altogether, that fits the requirements and budget. Many thanks
