Keep in mind that Mac Pro is no gaming laptop and their OEM thermal paste sucks so bad (it degrades quite fast)They fixed the thermal paste problem with the 2014 MBP. Unfortunately his is not that new. Turbo boost still barely works on sustained workloads with the limited airflow but the temps are stable on my 2014 MBP. Personally I would install Windows just for the improved dolphin performance.
There is no way to check your laptop's condition as long as you keep using OSX . Install windows 7/8/10 64bit via bootcamp , AMD driver for windows and this
and then run Dolphin along side with Realtemp to verify your CPU's clock speed
All i5 i7 have turbo boost feature that boost up CPU speed higher than default (yours is 2.2GHz) . Turbo Boost will not work if CPU overheats . Btw Dolphin is a dual core app , that's why 2.2GHz is too slow for most games
After installing Windows , you should read laptop performance guide
