Hello, just wondering if those two setup would be good enough to play .. let's say skyward at full speed? also wondering about ocing the cpu to 4.0ghz+
Thanks!

oc to 3.4-3.8 is safer than 4.0++... its not a sandybridge
but skyward at fullspeed should be @3.2 possible
EDIT by neobrain: that pic was kinda annoying..

Yea, that combo should do fine. Overclocking will definitely help with this game.

4.0 is a clock with the first i-7 generation which is only with a high voltage possible
i have an 920 with good stepping and overclocking to 4.0 is really unstable without raising the vcore... just clock to 3.4 it should be more than enough for skyward

Oh alright but if you raise the vcore what is the worst thing that can happen?
dont OC if you dont know a thing about it...
some mainboards are chaning dynamically the vcore to maintain stability... disable this option... otherwise your cpu is going to hell... like mine for a second... i tryed 4ghz and somehow the option was enabled... in prime it reached 80° and more vcore of hell i dont know why the mainboard increased the vcore out of specifications... but sure... i saw the vcore and temp and my hand automatically reached the powerplug ![]() just find a nice clock for you... http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1257000&mpage=1 just stay below 1.4v and 65°C under prime should give your cpu a long lifetime and don't go after 4ghz... 3.4-3.8 should be enough did you tried skyward?

Yeah a Sandy Bridge i5 2500K would have been a better choice.
The i7 960 at NewEgg.com is 289.99$ and a i5 2500K is 219.99$ The old architecture is 70$ more expensive and you gain nothing buying it. With an i5 2500K, 4.0GHz is a piece of cake for it. |
