Exclamation
I seem to have lost my old account so I've re-registered on the forums.
Anyway I'll state the obvious, I'm using a laptop because I travel a lot between 2 countries.

Now what I'm curious about is what can I expect in terms of running Dolphin and 2 specific games.

-Muramasa: Demon Blade (0 issues here since it ran on my 2 year old laptop)
-Donkey Kong Country Returns (old laptop was too slow / FPS issues)

Here are the system specs:

CPU/ Processor Intel® Core™ i7-3615QM Processor
CPU Clock Speed (Max.) 2.30GHz - 3.30GHz
CPU Cache L3 6MB
17.3" LED Full HD
Resolution 1920 x 1080
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M
Graphic Memory 2GB GDDR5
Standard System Memory 8GB
Memory Type DDR3 (1600MHz)

So my question is which settings in Dolphin can I expect to enable.
And get the best performance overall from said system (DX11).
Since the the computer is rather new (launched 2 weeks ago), it should be able to run some games decently.

Extra note: CPU is Ivy Bridge, and the GPU is a Kepler.

Yeah, concerning the 1st game, i suspect, it'll run @ fullspeed. (I don't know this game). Donkey Kong Country Returns won't run @ fullspeed, but should be very playable (about 90%+ speed)

Your GPU should be able to handle 3x IR (1080p) and 16xAF easily. That's it Smile

btw: Nice notebook.

Thanks for the quick reply, I can overclock the GPU a bit.
Bringing it closer to stock speed of a GT 660M Tongue
Which would put it on par (maybe slightly below, maybe slightly above) a desktop GTX 560.

You might want to look at that again.

Totally wrong
(Laptop)Nvidia GTX 660M Memory BandWidth : 64GB/sec
(Desktop)Nvidia GTS 450 : 57.7Gb/sec
(Desktop)Nvidia GTX 460 : 86.4->115.2
(Desktop)Nvidia GTX 550 Ti : 98.4GB/sec
(Desktop)Nvidia GTX 560 : 128GB/sec
Overclock GPU can gain more FPS on PC games but you won't gain anything on Dolphin .

Ah seems like I'm mixing things up, between the 2 laptops of my choice (M17xR4 7970M / 700Z7C 650M).
But let's leave that aside, so 3x IR should be fine then (what the hell does that mean anyway?).
I know what IR stands for but how is that used as a measurement?

AMD 7970M Memory BandWidth : 153.6 GB/s , it's much better than GTX 660M
But AMD has sth to do with their driver
1x IR = 480p
1.5x IR = 960x792
2x IR = 720p
2.5x IR = 1600x1320
3x IR = 1080p
4x IR = 2560x2112

Play XenoBlade-Wii :
Nvidia GT 540M (28.8GB/sec ) :
_2.5x IR : 30 FPS (30 FPS is full speed)
_3x IR : 24 FPS! (bottleneck the CPU)
Nvidia 9800GT (57.6Gb/sec)
_3x IR : 30 FPS
_4x IR : 25 FPS! (bottleneck the CPU)

Better GPU can give higher IR , AA ... but no speed gain from that , Dolphin focus on CPU performance

Yeah it's the current top tier mobile card, but I swayed away from the Alienware.

At best I'll be playing CS: Go, which the 650M gives about 87 FPS at 1080p.
And it's much easier to carry, 3x IR isn't so bad and most games will be playable.

Ran through a few threads to see what to enable and expect.
Thanks for the input guys.
