i5 6400 oc without avx or i5 6600k

I want to buy either the i5 6400 or i5 6600k.
The 6400 has a base clock of 2.7 ghz, but can be overclocked as much as the 6600k.
But overclocking the 6400 will disable avx.



Can I run dolphin without avx?

If so, how much slower is it and should buy the 6400 or 6600k ?

Dolphin does not require AVX to run (only sse2 afaik), not sure if it makes use of any optimizations however.

I'm pretty sure non-k OC is not possible now , a microcode update from Intel will disable that function
Unless you install a fresh version of windows , disable windows update for good , disconnect internet before installing windows ....There is no way you can avoid this update !

Yes, it's a better idea to go with the 6600K. It's probably not even possible to overclock anymore with most BIOSes.
