i5 2500k or i7 2600k

i5 2500k @3.30
or
i7 2600k @3.40

is it worth the extra $99 and will I see much of a difference in performance between the two.

If I had the money, I would go for the 2600k because I like to have more threads, and do more multi-tasking, videos, and other intensive apps. If money is not an issue then go for the 2600k, so then you won't be regretting, "Oh, I should have gotten the 4 core with 8 threads!".

By the way , can anyone explain something to me ?

Yesterday I went home and tried a few games with my new setup (2600k@4.7ghz+8g+5870Crossfire) , and Dolphin surprised me , showing an Intel 16 Cores when it started ! I tried a few times , then I had to leave , but still , I could see when booting Dolphin , in yellow letters and in a really recent build , 16 cores ???!!

WTF ???

The same happens with a core i7, just a bad detection from the program, nothing more.
As for the op, in dolphin there won't be any difference, in pc games maybe a small one. Mostly it will be used by highly multithreaded applications that quite frankly aren't that many.

Good to know , Went from q6600 to my 2600k so I had no idea , Cheers .

Get the 2500k unless you do video encoding a lot. Unfortunately, it has turned me into the custom DVD maker for all my friends in town. I don't charge anymore since it doesn't take up any of my spare time.

i7 2600k with dual 5870 sounds really sweet. You should give the dolphin benchmark a go so we can look in awe.
